Step 01

The Setup

Insert 2x 1.5V batteries. The handcrafted wooden board features 4 detached LEDs and 4 coloured switch caps. Everything can be examined by your friends.

Step 02

The Illusion

Rearrange the LEDs and swap the caps. Amazingly, each switch still controls its matching colour. But when a spectator tries, the magic vanishes—the switch only controls the LED directly in front of it.

The Magician's Secret

A concealed ESP-07 microcontroller powers the illusion. Input a secret switch sequence to unlock a hidden WiFi dashboard, designed to help you learn and perfect your routines.

A Father & Son
Project.

TheTuringBox was born from an obsession with magic and engineering. Designed by a student of Aerospace Engineering, built by the skilled hands of a master woodworker — father and son, combining disciplines.

The wooden shell is cut at 45-degree mitres so the grain flows continuously around every corner. No visible joints. The box looks like a single piece of wood — until you notice the switches.

Inside: a hand-soldered PCB, a ESP8266 flashed with custom C++ firmware, and an interactive magic illusion that elevates a classic trick to the digital age.

The Turing Box requires exactly 2× 1.5V Alkaline AA batteries. Do NOT use rechargeable NiMH batteries (1.2V) — the blue LED requires a minimum of 3.0V to illuminate correctly, and with rechargeables the puzzle will behave incorrectly.

It requires absolutely no sleight of hand. The trick relies on a hidden sequence and a bit of memory. The secret WiFi dashboard, powered by the ESP8266, includes a step-by-step tutorial to help you master the routines perfectly.

None whatsoever. The ESP8266 generates its own WiFi Access Point (TheTuringBox_AP) when you input the secret sequence. Connect to that network with any smartphone or computer and navigate to 192.168.4.1 in your browser. 100% offline and standalone.

Yes, it is completely examinable. When a spectator handles the box and flips the switches, they will function completely normally (each switch will only operate the LED directly in front of it). The magic only happens when you want it to.

The firmware is proprietary, but yes — the ESP8266/ESP32 is fully accessible via the OTA WiFi interface once you unlock the secret mode. Advanced users can reflash with their own firmware. We provide documentation for this in the hidden dashboard.
